Paulding FFA Members Advance to State Public Speaking
On Wednesday, February 12th, the Paulding FFA had 7 members compete in the sub-district public speaking contest in Delphos, Ohio. The public speaking contest is divided into 4 divisions, with the first being creed speaking, where freshman members must memorize the FFA Creed by E.M. Tiffany. Paulding freshman, Carter Manz, competed in the contest and placed 4th. The second category is beginning prepared public speaking where students must write and memorize a speech about the topic of their choice. Competing in this contest was freshman Mason Schlatter, who placed 2nd, and Paige Jones, who placed 3rd. The third category is advanced prepared public speaking, which is very similar to beginning prepared, but for more advanced students such as juniors and seniors. Competing in this contest was Sydney Reineck, who placed 1st in the division. The last division is extemporaneous, where students are given 30 minutes to research a random topic and then must make up the speech during this time. Competing in this division was Luke McCullough, 3rd place, Shannon Hale, 1st place, and Baylee March, 6th place. The following members moved on to the district contest: Mason Schlatter, Sydney Reineck, and Shannon Hale.
The district public speaking contest was held in Spencerville on February 20th. Sydney Reineck placed 3rd with her speech about honeybees, Mason Schlatter with his speech about Wildlife’s Impact on Agricultural Crops placed 1st, and Shannon Hale placed 2nd with her extemporaneous speech. Mason Schlatter and Shannon Hale will now move on to that state contest on March 7th in Marysville.
